Overview
About VPM Kannada High School And Junior College
Vidya Prasark Mandal (Regd) was founded on 26th March, 1960 to provide educational facilities to children of Kannada speaking parents in Greater Mumbai. It took over Kannada Primary classes, established in 1957, from Karnataka Sangh, Mulund-Thane. In 1962, the Mandal added Secondary Classes from V to VIII which gradually flowered into a full-fledged Kannada Medium High School. The first batch appeared for SSC Examination in 1966. In 1972 the Mandal decided to start an English Medium School and they started K. G. classes to meet the growing demand for education through English medium from the cosmopolitan community of Mulund. This became VPM’s English High School in 1982. The School was named as VPM’s B R Tol English High School when late Shri B R Tol gave a handsome donation to the Mandal. Now the school is affiliated to CBSC board. The two schools have made a name for themselves. Despite financial and space constraints, the Management, consistent with their proclaimed policy of moving forward in catering to the needs of higher education in Mulund, started Junior College as an extension of VPM’s Kannada High School from the academic year 1991-92. Within a short span of its establishment, the Jr. College has grown by leaps and bounds producing commendable results year after year despite admitting students from poor economic and academic backgrounds. During the past five years the college has been securing over 98% results in HSC with a number of students obtaining distinction. Our outgoing students always come out with higher percentage than that they had obtained in SSC thereby improving their performance in our Jr. College. In the year 2013-14 college got 100% results at HSC level both in Science & Commerce. Vidya Prasarak Mandal started Degree College of Arts, Science & Commerce in August 2003. The college offers admission in employment-oriented fast emerging specialised courses. Over a period of time it has been able to obtain Govt / University approval for 1) B.Com 2), B.Sc. (IT), 3) B.A., 4) B.Sc. (Gen), 5) B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.), 6) B.Com (Banking and Insurance), 7) B.M.S. 8) BMM. Kannada Linguistic minority students are given preference in admissions. Vidya Prasark Mandal launched an educational project at Airoli (Sector 19), Navi Mumbai, namely, National Integration School (Marathi & Kannada) and International School (ICSE) in June 2005. This school imparts quality education in three media . VPM’s Kannda High School is one of the oldest & well-known Kannada Schools in Mumbai. Students usually hailing from far off places and economically not so well to- do families attend this school. The management, well wishers, teachers look in to their basic needs in education. The school has started Semi-English Medium facility for students of Std. V-X. Our students perform well in the academic front as well as other extra curricular- activities. In the year 2000, Ms. Jyoti M. Ganagi secured 16th rank in the merit list in the SSC Board Exam and made the institution proud. The Jr. College was started in the year 1991 with Commerce and Science faculties. The Jr. College is celebrating Silver Jubilee this year – having achieved remarkable 100% result last year. Information Technology (IT) was introduced in class XI from 2014-15 in place of second language. Our students perform well in the Board Exam. Last year we achieved the distinction of 100% result in Science as well as Commerce streams. With the able guidance of Vidya Prasarak Mandal and dedicated service of our teaching and non-teaching staff, our School & Jr. College is progressing in the path of quality education.
