Class 4 is a mid-primary year with no major board transition, making it a practical time for families to move schools if something isn't working. Lateral transfers at Class 4 follow the standard process: TC from the current school, Class 3 mark sheet, and an informal interaction. The academic gap between different schools starts to become visible by Class 4 — if you're moving from a less rigorous to a more rigorous school, factor in a 2–3 month adjustment period for your child. Schools with a strong Class 5 exit assessment (for middle school entry) tend to intensify teaching in Classes 4–5, so ask about this before selecting. Annual fees at Class 4 are usually in the same band as other primary years — but add-on charges (activity, tech, lab) can vary significantly.

Class 4 is a practical switch point — no board exams are imminent and the child is old enough to adapt. If you've been unhappy with the current school, moving now avoids the disruption of switching in Classes 6–9 when academic stakes are higher.
Most schools do not conduct formal tests for Class 4 lateral entry. An informal interaction or short assessment is more common, mainly to understand the child's current academic level.
