Class 12 is the final board-exam year and the most constrained transfer scenario. CBSE, ICSE and most State Boards require continuous enrollment from Class 11 in the same school for board registration — mid-year transfers that break this continuity can jeopardise the student's board exam eligibility. Transfers before the start of Class 12 (i.e., after completing Class 11 elsewhere) are possible at some schools, subject to seat availability and board registration timelines. This is most relevant for students relocating cities between Class 11 and 12, or those moving from a school that doesn't have a strong Class 12 track record. If you're considering this, contact both the current school and the target school before April — board registration windows are tight and inflexible.

Only if the student completed Class 11 at a different school and is seeking fresh Class 12 admission before the academic year begins (April). Board registration must be verified — CBSE and ICSE require continuous enrollment in the same school through both Class 11 and 12 for board exam eligibility.
The primary risk is board registration discontinuity. If the Class 11 board registration was at the previous school and the new school doesn't correctly transfer it, the student's exam eligibility can be jeopardised. Always confirm the registration transfer in writing with both schools and the board directly.
